Nutrition
To help people safely consume various nutrients, nutritionists started to propose reference intakes for some nutrients in the early 20th century. Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) was once used as a dietary quality standard for food production, which played a significant role in protecting people’s health.
Starting from the early 1990s, some European countries have used some new concepts or terms, and the nutrition community in the US and Canada extended the coverage of the RDAs. China also developed the Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs). The Chinese Nutrition Society studied the progress in this field and decided to reform the conventional concept of RDAs.
DRIsDRIs applies to dietary nutrition assessment and programmes carried out by nutritionists targeting Chinese population or individuals, provides scientific references for developing national food nutrition development plans and nutrition standards, and is of great importance to the R&D and evaluation of nutritious food.
